Origine fabrique pour enfants

Marimaud Morin

Luca Carpinteri

Luca Carpinteri - Vignoble Carpinteri

Bamboo Express

Sarah-Anne Duchesnay Corriveau

Sarah-Anne Duchesnay Corriveau - Bamboo Express
Sarah-Anne Duchesnay Corriveau is a young restaurateur in the region of Québec. Sarah-Anne and her sisters Marie Gabrielle and Catherine own and operate two authentic Chinese restaurants named Bamboo Express. Without any previous restaurant experience they opened their restaurant in Ste-Foy four years ago. With the instant success of the restaurant, the sisters saw the need to open a second Bamboo. Nine months later, Bamboo express opened in the old part of Québec City. They now operate with a staff of over forty-five employees. Two years after the openings, the sisters won the award "Grande distinction" at the Gala de la restauration in Québec City and Sarah-Anne has had the honour of being a Youth Employment and Education Success Story. The sisters came up with the concept: Asian, healthy, fast. There has been an emphasis on using fresh products from Québec growers and producers. All the sauces are homemade. Produce is received fresh daily and the recipes are inspired by classical Chinese cuisine, made possible with the help of the fifteen Chinese cooks and assistants who have even come up with a vegetarian version of most dishes. The restaurants have fine-tuned the concept of an express type lunch, with a full table service in the evening. Take-out is possible all day long in the much loved Chinese take-out box. Further expansion is part of THE plan.

Yves Martineau

Yves Martineau - Camp Dopamine Inc.
"The job of your dreams does exist!" Yves Martineau of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges will tell you. This former professional snowboarder, who specializes in freestyle, had previously thought that the only way to earn a living in the sport was as an athlete. But, since he had business smarts and a passion for snowboarding, he started to imagine another way to turn this into a profession. With experience as a trainer for the Québec snowboarding team since 1999 and a combination of determination, perseverance, and belief in his dreams, he was inspired to create, in 2009, Camp Dopamine Inc. This company allows him not only to transmit his passion to young people but also to make a living! He currently organizes training camps worldwide that combine snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding, and he will soon to be in charge of a club to help support the development of younger generations at the centre de ski le Relais. He's living proof that believing in your dreams pays off! Words that best represent Yves Martineau: pura vida

Destination? Lecours Communication

Steeve Lecours

Steeve Lecours - Lecours Communication
After spending ten years working for companies directly or indirectly linked to graphic design professions, Steeve Lecours finally came to a simple conclusion: listening to customer needs and ensuring a job well done inevitably leads to positive results. So, without a penny to his name or any available resources, he went on to found Lecours Communication. Now self-employed, he went door-to-door, portfolio in hand, to get himself contracts. Thanks largely to his drive and resourcefulness, he was able to build up a new clientele. His graphic design and print consulting services turned out to be extremely useful for many community organizations and businesses looking to do things differently and to cut their costs. Rather than building up a large pool of clients, Steeve Lecours decided to add more to what he had to offer. He began providing new products and services to his clients via a network of skilled suppliers. Promotional items, kiosks, large format as well as specialized projects soon emerged. Because his company offered turn-key solutions, his clients could save time and money, confident that everything would be done on time and according to the rule book - and all this through one man: the graphic designer! Five years have passed since then and the team has tripled, bringing with it a more diversified range of expertise, though each project still represents a new challenge to overcome! Word that best describes Steeve Lecours: tenacious

Les urbainculteurs

Francis Denault, Simon Lepage et Marie Eisenmann

Francis Denault, Simon Lepage et Marie Eisenmann - Les urbainculteurs
The Urbainculteurs is a non-profit organization that promotes gardening and urban agriculture to the general public and other organizations. We offer horticulture in Biotop containers, which are a Québec invention that is both highly productive and suitable for anything from the smallest balcony to the largest roof. We are based in Québec City but also have an office in Montreal. Created in February 2009, our organization had an exceptionally good first season. Having no training in either business or horticulture, we wagered everything on intuition and our determination to make the project work no matter what. Our different professional backgrounds (in food service/logistics, architecture, and communication) turned out to be complementary and extremely useful when it came to developing our organization. In the winter and spring, we participated in various events to publicize ourselves, and then organized information sessions/workshops at our office. Events reminiscent of Tupperware parties… And they were a big success for us too! We have been lucky to be starting out at the right time, as there is currently renewed interest in gardening, a demand for local and organic foods, and concern for the environment. All this has meant excellent media coverage - an invaluable asset! This year, we also carried out a large-scale project with a social mandate: an enormous vegetable garden planted in more than 500 containers on the roof of Québec City's largest homeless shelter, the Maison de Lauberivière. This garden produces a portion of the food used in the shelter's kitchen, and as of next year, it will also become a social reintegration project. Our objective: to put to use a maximum number of unused urban spaces by transforming them into gardens and to teach people (or to remind them of) the pleasure of gardening.

Sébastien Richer

Sébastien Richer - Gestion ressources Richer
Sébastien Richer became passionate about the world of entrepreneurship at an early age. He spent time growing up at his paternal grandparents' butcher shop and maternal grandparents' hardware shop. As he got older, Sébastien wanted to do more for the environment than simply fill up his recycling bin, he decided to start up a recycling business with his father. After 15 years in business, their venture has become one of the most innovative in Québec. Eighteen months ago, the entire sorting centre was destroyed in a fire, an event that prompted Sébastien and his father to adapt their equipment in anticipation of any future problems. Sébastien has since begun a new project, and the sorting centre is rising from the ashes. For Sébastien, "the past is full of good memories, and the future is full of promise." Valérie Giguère - La brosse d'art
Valérie Giguère is a 19-year old entrepreneur from Magog. In 2008, she started up her own dog grooming business called "La Brosse d'Art". While she was in high school, there was no indication that Valérie would become a successful businesswoman. She hated school and barely had passing grades. She persevered in school, however, with the idea that maybe one day she could realize her dream of owning her own grooming business. After finishing high school, she worked to save money, and obtained her diploma in 2007. From the beginning, Valérie's friends and family have supported her in her goals: she started her business with her father Denis in the family basement, renovated and equipped for the business. Since then, Valérie's business has stood out from the competition in that she offers her service to dogs of 100 pounds and more. Word that best describes Valérie: perseverence

These three young colleagues have been passionate about music since they first started taking piano lessons as children. Writing lyrics and composing music led to performing on stage, organizing shows for other musicians and spending many hours in studio recording their music, which can be found on several different albums After studying music at CÉGEP and university, each of the three taught music separately, while playing in a band together. The idea for a music school was germinating. It seemed obvious that a different type of music school was needed to respond to customers' demands, which had changed with new technologies and trends in the music industry. Corey Szwarcok - Dynamix
Corey discovered his first passion - working with young people - when he was a teenager. He enjoyed working in camps, youth groups and sport leagues. It was right out of university when Corey discovered his second passion - business. It was a light bulb moment when he decided to marry his two passions together and start up a Teambuilding and Leadership company for children and teens. Corey and his partner, Mitch, applied for several grants and loans but were continuously rejected and were told their business model would not work. Currently in its 6th year, Dynamix Adventures has exceeded even the partner's own expectations and currently has offices in Québec and Ontario and employs over 30 people. Word that best represents Corey: persistence Dynamix Adventures Inc. was co-founded by Corey Szwarcok and Mitch Zeltzer in Montréal, Québec in October 2002. Dynamix developed a wide range of workshops for a variety of participants on teambuilding, character education, group development, life skills, and adventure challenges. In December 2006, Dynamix expanded its operations and opened its second location in Toronto, Ontario. Since opening in 2002, Dynamix has had a positive impact on thousands of kids, teens and professionals. At Dynamix, we strongly believe that you cannot simply tell a child what to do and expect them to understand and internalize this message. This approach simply does not work! She had different jobs in her father's dépanneur from the age of 11. With B.A.s in Psychology and Public Relations, she worked for six years in communications. Her creativity and versatility have always allowed her to distinguish herself. For example, in 2002, she organized many 100% organic gourmet events in her home, which had been transformed into a restaurant. These experiences taught her the harsh reality of the restaurant business, so she decided to create her own line of products instead. This is how the line of organic granola came into existence. Indyish began as an idea in Risa and Elran's heads. In December 2005, Risa came up with the name Indyish to describe a balance between "captain of your own ship" and "member of a mutually beneficial network." Elran dug it so he worked to build the website based on suggestions from the artists and the founders' own dream schemes. In August 2006, Indyish launched with much art making, rock music and fanfare. Today Indyish is still based in Montréal, still run and developed by Elran and Risa, with an awesome evolving team, sexy volunteers, and over 300 groups of indie artists who are members of the site. Together they co-author an indie arts group blog, sell indie wares and produce Indyish events like the MonthlyMess. Their mission is to pool audiences, voices and the market for indie goods.

Dominic Rozon - Auberge de jeunesse Petite-Nation
In 2006, Dominic Rozon left Montréal and made the big jump towards the Petite-Nation, with the support of Place aux jeunes Papineau. As soon as he arrived, he started dreaming of a stimulating and cooperation-based social reintegration program. Over time, the idea of opening a hostel solidified for Dominic and his friend Stéphanie. They decided that finding interested municipalities and forming a committee for the cooperative should be their top priorities. Transforming a 19th century historical building into a youth hostel was the next challenge for the director of the cooperative. Among the long list of challenges to come was the task of promoting the hostel, the first of its kind in Outaouais. By the end of 2009, Dominic's dream will have become a reality. The youth hostel will be both a place for people to come together and a place of cooperation offering accommodation for visitors of all ages. It will also provide a social reintegration platform in the hospitality industry for young adults. It's been an interesting road for Dominic who's been able to help other travellers on their journey. We are two health professionals from the Outaouais region, who have worked in many areas of the public sector. We wanted to make a difference in our region because many people have difficulty accessing blood testing. We decided to create SAPSO, which is the first business in Québec to offer an at home or at work blood-testing service in collaboration with our regional hospitals (CSSSG). It took a year and a half of hard work before we visited our first client! But we didn't let anything stand in our way. Three years have passed, and we have helped more than 6000 clients and expanded our services to four blood-testing centres associated with medical clinics and pharmacies. We specialize in anticoagulotherapy and now hold dozens of highly specialized diabetes certifications! It is a fascinating field of work that is commensurate with our values!

My name is Bonnie Tubman-Zimmerling. I was born in Shawville, Que., the place I still call home. Entrepreneurship was never something I thought of myself getting involved in. Going into business always seemed so risky and I’m certainly not a risk taker, especially not in these tough economic times. 5 years ago Kris Lafleur & I began taking family portraits as a fundraiser for the Dr. S. E. McDowell Home & School, of which we were both members. As demands for our work started to grow we realized that if we wanted to continue, which we did, then we would need someplace to set up a permanent studio. In March 2009 “Snapshots photography & design” was created and we no longer just do photos – web design, brochures, business cards, photo restoration, etc…are all part of our business. It’s a huge learning curve but being my own boss is great. This is a journey I’m very glad that I’m taking...how many people get to make a living by doing something they truly enjoy!!!

Karine Létourneau - Chaussures Karo Spin
Karine Létourneau began working at a very young age at her parents' different businesses. She quickly discovered she had a strong interest in her parent's shoe business, Chaussures Karo. While studying in Rouyn-Noranda, Karine took advantage of an opportunity to work in a different shoe store to compare business practices and learn more about the shoe business. When she turned 21, she bought her family's shoe store and found herself making big decisions on her own. She had to deal with problems with employees and purchase stock from different companies. During the first few years, she was tempted to work under a franchise to avoid many problems. For example, she could have made all her purchases through the franchisor's supplier. After thinking it over, she decided to continue the business venture on her own. A few years later, when a clothing store unexpectedly when out of business, Karine decided to open a new woman's boutique, Spin. The business got off to a wonderful start, exceeding even the most optimistic expectations. This motivated her to open another Spin in Val-d'Or. Considering the distance and her busy schedule, she decided to sell the Val-d'Or store to its manager. Karine studied the clientele of her two businesses in La Sarre and realized that they were very similar. She made a wise decision to combine these two exciting businesses in a building she already owned. The new store is called Chaussures Karo Spin.

Émilie Rivest - La gourmandine
I've loved cooking for as long as I can remember! But my entrepreneurial spirit has only developed in recent years. In 2000, I started studying administration at the CÉGEP in Amos. After just a year, I realized that cooking was my true calling; I left to study at a cooking school in the Laurentians. After finishing, I felt drawn back to my beautiful region and decided to return and settle there. When I arrived, I found a job in a small bakery. I learned everything there is to know about the traditional art of making bread. I loved the experience but, after a year and a half, the business was forced to close. The owner then offered to sell me the business. I was passionate about my work, but lacked the management know-how that seemed essential. So I returned to finish the CÉGEP diploma that I had started before. I finished it two years later. The idea of starting my own business was taking shape. I even created a business plan for a bakery as the final project for one of my classes. I was also part of the CÉGEP's entrepreneur club and got hands-on experience in project management when we organized a wine and cheese party. The bakery finally opened in 2007, and everyone has been helping to make it a success ever since. I wanted to offer the people of Amos unique, fresh products. I also wanted to showcase the talents of young artisans who aren't well-established yet. There is a place for young people. There's still work to be done. Everyone can participate in making our town thrive.

La Joyeuse Bouffe

Louis-Joseph Beauchamp

Louis-Joseph Beauchamp - La Joyeuse Bouffe
With a love for food and science, Louis-Joseph Beauchamp decided to study natural science at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue CÉGEP in Rouyn-Noranda. After his studies, he chose to go into orthotherapy – a discipline that integrates therapeutic massage, aromatherapy and nutrition - and his entrepreneurial desire started to grow. Coming back to the region, Louis-Joseph made his mark in Témiscamingue with the restaurant La Bannik. Thanks to this experience, his passion for cooking and entrepreneurial desire reappeared. In 2008, he went into business with La Joyeuse Bouffe that offered an original and varied menu for the students of the école Rivière-des-Quinze de Notre-Dame-du-Nord and a personalised catering service for the people of Abitibi-Témiscamingue. In the last few years, Louis-Joseph has also invested in the Foire gourmande de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue et du Nord-est ontarien. He had the opportunity to present his recipes to an audience at the fair's Chefs cuisiniers en action event. He has also participated in the fair's gourmet dinners that feature regional products and developed new dishes that farmers offer visitors. Passionate and self-taught, he follows his imagination to create new dishes inspired by regional products. He is particularly fond of culinary improvisation, devising recipes with what he has on hand. With Louis-Joseph: nothing goes to waste and new possibilities abound. With a love of regional products and an innovative style in combining tastes and flavours, Louis-Joseph Beauchamp's cuisine is well-known, unique and exciting!

Mireille Bournival et Alexandre Groulx

Mireille Bournival et Alexandre Groulx - Le trèfle noir
Two 25-year-old entrepreneurs, Alexandre Groulx and Mireille Bournival, started Le Trèfle Noir. They met while studying multimedia at l'Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Their meeting led them down a different path from the one they were expecting. After a three-year exile in the big city, looking for new challenges and wanting to return to the region, the young couple opened the first microbrewery in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Originally from Victoriaville, Alexandre is an experienced, professionally trained brewer who spent more than three years honing his skills at the McAuslan Brewery in Montréal. Mireille was born in Rouyn-Noranda. It was her love for the region that motivated her to move back. Mireille's five years of experience in the restaurant business, as a waitress and then a manager, gave her the experience necessary to run their business. This young couple wants to share their passion for beer making and introduce wonderful, new, locally produced products to the region. Word that best describes Alexandre and Mireille: daring

Yannick Morin

Yannick Morin - Ferme 5 étoiles
In 2007, Yannick decided to become an official co-owner of Ferme 5 Étoiles, teaming up with his wife, Stéphanie Deschênes, and brother-in-law, Jimmy Deschênes. He couldn't pass up this opportunity to take over this wonderful family business that he describes as "agro-recreotouristic." It was golden opportunity for him to combine work with his love of nature. Before becoming co-owner, he had worked for the business on projects that he had organised himself, like sea kayaking and dog sledding. The farm now offers a wide-range of activities all year long: hiking, river canoeing, sea kayaking, ATV riding, visiting farm animals, dog sledding, snow shoeing, sleeping in an igloo, and snowmobiling. In the spring, the sugar shack is a favourite with kids of all ages. A lodging service is also available for approximately 225 people, either on site or next to the fjord. Many school groups from different regions come to the farm for different activities. Yannick explains that visitors like the chance to pick fresh eggs in the henhouse at dawn. To be an entrepreneur in this field, which is primarily in customer service, requires time and diplomacy. But for Yannick, his customers' satisfaction is all that matters. Of course, there are not only advantages to being one's own boss, but he explains that joint ownership makes it easier when solving problems and making decisions. We can't forget the daily challenge of balancing work and family. Yannick and Stéphanie have four children who often pitch in to organise sugar shack entertainment and take care of the animals.

Lise Thibeault - L'Antipasto Épicerie  Fine Inc.
Without a doubt, passionate is the word that best describes Lise Thibeault. This is true for all aspects of her life, especially with her business, L'Antipasto Épicerie Fine Inc., founded on September 28, 2006, in Baie-Comeau. This prominently placed business on Place La Salle specializes in the sale of fine foods. A large portion of the merchandise comes from Québec producers, so the store is able to showcase regional products, such as local cheeses. For Lise, the most important part of being an entrepreneur is welcoming customers into her store, since she considers her job to be first and foremost about serving and greeting them with a warm, friendly smile as if they were coming into her home. In addition to her role as an entrepreneur, Lise is an ambassador for Manicouagan, and she is always keen to get involved in her community. For her, Manicouagan is a place to develop and make her own - a place to discover and rediscover again and again!

Kevin Landry - Le Garage
Mr. Kevin Landry, born in Havre-Saint-Pierre on the North Shore, left his village to study sound design at Musitechnic in Montréal. An excellent musician, he has showcased his talents in many places throughout the province of Québec. After a few years, he returned to Havre-Saint-Pierre to work for the mining company. He has toured with his band around the Mingan region. His dream is to promote the culture of his village and would like artists from his region to be able to afford to record their albums. It was a big challenge to set up a recording studio in the Mingan region, especially for a reasonable cost. Mr. Landry predicted they would produce an album and a half per year. They have already surpassed this goal, with three albums already completed, two in the works, and several more to be started. Our entrepreneur and his friend, Alain Barriault, want to attract musicians from outside of the area to do pre-production at the studio, and, at the same time, to enjoy the attractions of his region. Thanks to his passion for music, he was able to start his recording studio, Le Garage. Word that best describes Mr. Kevin Landry: achievement

Lucille Leblanc

Since her goal was to start up her own business and to be the head of her own company, Lucille LeBlanc studied business administration at Centre d'études collégiales des Îles from 1988 to 1991. A go-getter possessing a naturally entrepreneurial spirit, Lucille went on to accumulate experience in many areas, and with a thousand-and-one ideas in her head, she knew that she would eventually find the right business idea. She started up her own car rental business, but this wasn't ideal as it only operated during the summer months, and she had to head to the city every winter. Lucille's next venture was in the coffee business. She delivered and distributed coffee across Québec for a company that specializes in the field for two years before eventually opening up her own coffee roastery. The experience allowed her to make connections and learn the ropes, and 27 months ago she opened her own coffee roastery. Running her own roastery has allowed her to live her dream at home on the islands, and to stay there year round. Word that best describes Lucille LeBlanc: perseverance

Jean-François Lachance

Jean-François Lachance - Embarcations 4-saisons
From a long line of mariners, an expert in navigation like his father, Mr. Jean-François Lachance is a graduate of l'Institut maritime du Québec who is continually honing his skills. Mr. Lachance, along with his family, has faced and overcome all types of adverse navigational conditions on the St. Lawrence River: high wind and waves, dangerous currents, ice, frazil and ice jams. In overcoming these obstacles, he developed unique skills in boat design. Jean-François Lachance and his father, François, captain and owner of Croisières Lachance, had dreamed for many years of creating a versatile launch that would perform as well in extreme cold and icy conditions as it did in calm ones. With such qualities, the craft would be ideal for rescue operations. They had to design a craft that would be light, sturdy, buoyant, safe and easily manoeuvred. It was a challenge, but one that the Lachance family was up for. Based on their expertise with ice canoes, they worked tirelessly to create a prototype that, after trials and modifications, became the UMA 17MCtm rescue craft, which is now sold internationally. Words that best describe Mr. Jean-François Lachance and his family: expert, innovative and passionate

It was a round about route that led Myriam Bureau to what she is passionate about today: communications. Unafraid of challenges, she first went to Ontario for a year to learn English. After returning to Québec, she became a sales apprentice, then an estimator and, finally, a communications advisor - a job she held for 6 years. A victim of the economic crisis, she lost her job. Quickly realizing that employers in the region couldn't afford to hire a full-time communications advisor, she decided to set out on her own, offering her services as a project manager in the field of communications. A few months later, she landed her first customer, proving that she had a flair for business. Myriam has had a very promising start for only two months in business!

Since 1982, Suzanne Latour - who holds a diploma from the Institut Technologique et Agroalimentaire de St Hyacinthe - has been working in dairy production, gathering milk from her herd of Saanen goats. This is no great surprise for those who know how much she loves animals! Sonia Lizotte

Sonia Lizotte - Alimentation à domicile
I started my business in 2006, however my training unofficially began in 1990 when I became interested in nutrition after a problem with obesity. I had tried everything: many different diets, powders, and miracle pills. After failing time-after-time, I decided to do some research, and took nutrition and exercise classes. I designed my own physical fitness program and my own diet based on variety and the pleasure of eating well. After significant weight loss, I still wanted to learn more and continued my training. There were two directions I could take: to be a nutritionist or a naturopath. I preferred not to limit myself to either one of the disciplines, so I decided to focus on what interested me in both disciplines: the scientific side of nutrition and the natural side of naturopathy. Combine that with my training in physical education, and I was well on my way to creating my own job title: Nutritional Coach. Convinced that I could help people develop better life habits, I started my own business. My goal is to allow others to experience the well-being that comes from being in shape, eating well, and feeling good about oneself.

Jean-Sébastien Martin grew up in the municipality of Lavaltrie, a city to which he feels strongly attached. In the summer of 1999, when he was 18, he became involved in his field. That summer he and Simon Roy organized the first ever Festival jeunesse extrême. The festival was a huge success, and continued to be so for the next five years. This small amateur festival quickly became a important event for the region, where stars of the Québécois alternative music scene perfomed. It was precisely this first success that inspired him to develop a major concept that would significantly impact his career. Jean-Sébastien holds a DEC in Cinema and Communications and a Bachelor's in International Studies from the Université de Montréal. He is currently pursuing studies in territorial development. This young entrepeneur has received much recognition in the field, including the prize for Coopérative de l'année at the Gala des Mérites coopératifs Lanaudois, the Coup de oeur des Grands prix Desjardins de la culture, First prize at the Gala régional du Concours Québécois en Entrepreneurship, Jeune entrepreneur de l'année, and the Prix du publique at the Promexcel gala.

Born in Rawdon in 1976, Patrice Lalancette, 33 years old, has already had an impressive professional life. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Patrice showed his entrepreneurial spirit from a young age when successfully carrying out a number of student projects. His studies also lead him to explore development work, wildlife management and accounting, as well as what goes on behind the scenes of the recording and show business industries. Most of his professional experience has been in the Québécois showbiz industry, where he has worked as an assistant in the communications division, a road manager, a production manager, an operations manager and an artist manager. He has thus gained sound experience and cultivated an excellent reputation among key actors in the industry. A team player with a quick mind, Patrice Lalancette is a natural leader. He has the gift of leading people beyond their usual limitations and getting them to work together to reach a common goal. A long-time outdoor enthusiast, Patrice Lalancette also loves challenges and experiences that are out of the ordinary. His encounter with Nordic baths in the spring of 2001 had a major impact on his life. As a hyperactive person who could never seem to stop and relax, he had finally found a way to recharge his batteries: an extreme method of relaxation that corresponded to his values of uniqueness, passion, and striving continually to surpass his limits. Through this discovery, an idea began to take shape: he would open a Nordic bath in his native town of Rawdon. His listening skills and use of team-members' individual strengths have made Patrice an employer of choice. And, through his actions, he has promoted social commitment in his sector. Patrice Lalancette is an energetic, passionate, action-oriented young person. He believes in himself and in those around him. With him, there are never problems and always solutions. With close ties to her community, Geneviève developed a way of promoting her company while, at the same time, helping the environment: selling re-useable bags with the company's logo. This venture allowed her to save on packaging expenses, while also cutting down on plastic bags in circulation. Furthermore, all profits from the bags were given to two local organizations: La Maison des Jeunes de L'Assomption and L'Association des Amis de la Déficience intellectuelle Rive-Nord. The recipient of first prize in Lanaudière in the Québec Entrepeneurship Contest, 2008 (for Business Creation), Scrapbooking, Céramique & cie is unique in Québec in that it offers those with creative hobbies two activities under the same roof: scrapbooking and ceramic painting. Visitors can come to Geneviève's studio to scrapbook or paint spontaneously when they're in a creative mood: no need to register in advance!

Un monde à vie

Marianne Girard

Marianne Girard is hard working, determined - a real mover and shaker. From a young age, she has proven her aptitude for leadership. Starting as class representative to, most recently, running the Mascouche Chamber of Commerce, she has developed the skills needed to be successful. With a bachelor's degree from HEC, the young graduate threw herself into her first ambitious project. She gathered the resources to finance the shipping of a container full of pedagogical material to Benin. It was during her time there that her priorities changed and she came up with an idea for a business: Un monde à vie. Her dream became a reality when, at the age of 25, she opened a store based on responsible consumerism. She is just about to open a second store and her first franchise. She is also the cofounder of CEM. As director of the agro-tourism branch of SODAM, she was instrumental in establishing the first public market in Mascouche. With more than 100 conferences under her belt, Marianne is a committed entrepreneur who knows how to inspire other young people around her. Word that best describes Ms. Marianne Girard: committed

Geneviève et Claudine

Geneviève et Claudine - Atelier de joaillerie Lubie
Geneviève Beaulieu and Claudine Thibault became friends after meeting at Montreal's École de Joaillerie in 2002. Since she was very young, Claudine has always had a passion for bold art jewelry, whose shape, colour and texture offers surprises and dazzles and captivates the eye. Geneviève, on the other hand, likes to bring a feminine touch, softness and refinement to her creations that become an extension of the body. These two women from two creative worlds shared a common vision. So they decided to open a workshop where they could express their creative passion! That's how the Atelier de joaillerie Lubie, located in Val-David in the Laurentians, opened its doors in 2007. Geneviève and Claudine are entrepreneurs who feel that economic development shouldn't be detrimental to society. That's why in 2008 they made sustainable development the focus of their business activities. Words that best represent Geneviève and Claudine: passion and creativity!

Mariane Simonet - Atelier de verre F. Fusion
After many years in school (a DEC in Plastic Arts at Ste-Thérèse and university degrees in Interior Decorating and Art History), I've had the chance to bring together all my talents and interests... and even my family into my glass workshop! My mother and I divide our time between making new creations, teaching interested students, managing the budget, taking orders, making appointments and promoting sales. It's all in a day's work! We can't forget meetings, humour, new ideas, and of course long, busy work days. Though there are concessions to be made, it's part of the job. In short, the key to our success is being versatile and passionate, and having a good dose of energy!

Mélanie et Jean-François Ouellette

Mélanie et Jean-François Ouellette - Le domaine les Hauts Bois
Le Domaine les Hauts Bois, owned by Mélanie and Jean-François Ouellette, officially opened on December 26, 2006. After much planning and research, this physical education instructor and biological technician came up with a comprehensive business plan. The first part is raising wapitis and selling their meat. The second part is to offer "gourmet" meals on their farm that include seven gourmet courses featuring their meats (wapiti, lamb, duck, guinea-hen, quail, turkey, grain-fed chicken, rabbit, veal), fruits and vegetables from their garden (48 types of vegetables, 13 different fruits, 12 varieties of herbs, 2 types of spices, 2 varieties of mushrooms and different edible flowers). The third part is to welcome visitors, on a seasonal basis, for educational visits at the farm. These two entrepreneurs aren't resting on their laurels! Mélanie and Jean-François combine working outside with all the other aspects of their business. They have to be passionate. They put in long hours. "We value our customers; their smiles are our salaries," Mélanie and Jean-François always say. "We need to share our knowledge and our passion with our clients, and we do this on a regular basis through our educational visits and meals. We are proud to offer colorful dishes of delicious food that comes almost exclusively from our farm." Le Domaine les Hauts Bois is much more than a newly-launched business. It's a labour of love, created by two motivated, energetic young people. Word that best describes Mélanie and Jean-Francois Ouellette: passionate

Mélanie Simard

Mélanie Simard - Menu allergie
Mélanie comes from a family of entrepreneurs; her father and her uncles have started many businesses. At the age of 20, she took some time off school to work in a ladies clothing store. After two years, in spite of all the promotions she got, she had had enough and went back to school in fashion commercialization. After accumulating experience as a senior assistant designer at Christina Swimwear other jobs in the fashion industry, she wanted to do things her own way, the RIGHT WAY. Mélanie has three young daughters, and they all suffer from food allergies. Like many other entrepreneurs, Mélanie started her business with the idea of solving a personal problem. Nearly 600,000 Canadian families have to deal with food allergies. Food restrictions can become a headache, especially if you have to contact manufacturers to get additional information about the content of their products. That was the basis for the creation of Allergy Menu. It is an on-line store where people with allergies can find all the specialty foods they need. All the research has been done for them, and they can safely discover new products. Allergy Menu has become distributor for some of its best sellers. A lunch bag has even been specially designed for young kids with food allergies.  Mélanie wants Allergy Menu to become the Canadian reference for allergen-free foods and related products.

She studied communication and has worked in television for twenty years at TQS, including hosting many shows. In the last few years, she has done guest segments on household and consumer tips on the afternoon show Le Grand Journal with Jean-Luc Mongrain. Since September 2008, Nancie has been a commentator on the TVA show Deux filles le matin and has written for the magazine La Semaine. Nancie has also a brand new segment on household and consumer tips on René Homier-Roy's morning show C'est bien meilleur le matin every Friday on Radio-Canada. Nancie not only has knowledge about the beauty, body, and household product market, but she also understands consumers - what they want and what's popular. In February 2009, Éditions La Semaine published Nancie Ferron's Les 1001 trucs, which compiles some 400 tips that help consumers repair, buy and recycle products and make smart choices. She now spends her time promoting her book and Pure Lavande, her lavender-growing business and perfumery. Daniel Joannette grew up in the Basses-Laurentides region. His family has lived in the region and cultivated the land for generations. One of his ancestors was the first mayor of St-Joseph-du-Lac. Coming from a family of apple growers, Daniel is well acquainted with the apple industry and the farming world in general. His first retail experience dates back to when he was 10 or 11 years old. Until he was 15, he worked every summer, Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. selling fruits and vegetables door to door. On Friday nights and Sundays in the fall, he would sell apples at his grandparent's. As an adult, he has been fascinated by travelling and the world of communications. He has been a journalist for nearly 20 years, including 12 years at TQS with solid experience in the world of media. He's returning to his first loves: the land and entrepreneurship with Pure Lavande.

Caroline Verville - Centre équestre la Destinée
Since she was very young, Caroline, the daughter of a family of farmers (field crops and cattle production) from beautiful Ste-Cécile-de-Lévrard (RCM de Bécancour), has had a love of horses that knows no bounds. Armed with a CÉGEP degree in equine techniques, Caroline took the risk of opening her own equestrian centre despite the proliferation of such centres in the area. She was taking a big risk but felt confident that her talent for "breaking" difficult horses as well as her advanced knowledge of animal behaviour would pique the interest of horse lovers. Anne-Marie Lefebvre et Isabelle Duquette - Posturopied
We are two young women from Drummondville who met only three years ago. With such different personalities, who would have thought we'd make such a good team? Coming from families of modest means, we each had big plans for our future. The universe conspired to ensure our paths would cross. We both graduated from Collège Montmorency, but six years apart. After graduating, we perfected our skills in different orthopedic centres in Québec. Yet, neither one of us felt the sense of accomplishment we were looking for as prosthetist-orthotists. One day, we two young women with big dreams and the desire to make a difference met. Since then, we have built a practice at our clinic using our complementary strengths to offer a better quality of life to the people of our community and provide the support that they need.
