We offer a weekly delivery service and several pick-up locations in Kamouraska and Rivière-du-Loup.

After realizing that local products don't always make it to the shelves of local grocery stores, Julie Sénéchal decided to take initiative and create the Entre-Nous Les paniers du Kamouraska service offering access to a network of local food producers. This project responds to a real demand from residents of the region. Whether it's producers or consumers, everyone agrees: they want to be able to buy and sell products from the Kamouraska region. Julie Sénéchal was able to see the need for a new, more human distribution network. Thanks to her hard work, Julie has already developed partnerships with nearly forty local producers who offer their products to 180 local consumers... And it's only the beginning: more than a business, this service offers people in the region a chance to develop their know-how and identities while contributing to the vitality and quality of life in the region.

Entre-Nous Les paniers du Kamouraska was a finalist in the The Québec Entrepreneurship Contest and won the award for female entrepreneur in the Bas-Saint-Laurent regional finals. Julie Sénéchal also received a grant from the J. Armand Bombardier foundation through the Institut du Nouveau Monde as part of the “À go, on change le monde” program, which supports and promotes Québec's best social entrepreneurship ventures.

For as long as I can remember, I have always admired the special relationships some people share with their animals and I have also always loved to write and tell stories. I would tell people that my dream job didn’t exist yet, but that one day I was going to invent it.

Nine years ago, I began creating my dream job by carving out a place for myself in the Progrès-Dimanche newspaper. The Progrès du Saguenay team had agreed to listen to my ideas and I did not want to disappoint. Through my “teen pages” I’m teaching youth that anything is possible, helping them follow their dreams and value their abilities. With “ La page à Picotte,” I’m exploring the special bonds humans and animals develop with one another. I also try to use “La page à Picotte” to challenge and inspire people who have a hard time interacting with animals.

My office is in my home in the country where I live surrounded by my animals. With the help of veterinarians, I sometimes help rescue abandoned creatures. Last year I published my first book, which is the story of a dog trainer. I am preparing to write my second book, which will be a collection of my most precious moments with Picotte. Writing has become my life, and is still my favorite pastime.

I’m not a specialist in dog behavior, an animal breeder, a veterinarian, or an animal therapist. I’m just a curious, inquisitive person who wants to share beautiful stories about humans and animals.

Coopérative de solidarité radio communautaire de la MRC de Maskinongé’s mission is based on the following mandate: providing local radio programming, encouraging community involvement in programming and administration, encouraging community contribution to the social, financial, and cultural development of the station.

The cooperative’s mission is carried out in a number of ways: by improving the sharing of local information between Maskinongé regional county municipality’s 17 municipalities, by promoting local events and activities, by encouraging and supporting the development and promotion of local and regional music, by featuring and promoting the region, its activities and its resources, by encouraging community involvement in a collective project that has acted as a springboard for the regional county municipality’s future hosts and journalists.

The project currently has five employees, forty-two volunteer hosts, and eleven volunteer correspondents. These project participants produce 40 original shows a week which are presented and broadcast on 103.1 FM.

Two project members took the initiative of selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to raise money for the station. To accomplish this, they had to be at the Trois-Rivières Wal Mart parking lot at 4:00 a.m. to meet the delivery truck, and then deliver the boxes of doughnuts door to door to all the businesses that had ordered them in advance. It really showed how much the project meant and still means to our community.

Our organisation began with the l'Escalier Houses in the district of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, 23 years ago. To the original housing of homeless youth in trouble project was added a social insertion enterprise and a social economy farm. In 2003 the organisation acquired the Ferme Aux Champêtreries, a social economy enterprise located in the Eastern Townships.

The Ferme Aux Champêtreries is a nonprofit social economy organisation that aims for socio-professional integration of young people (18-30 years) of Haut-Saint-François. Our mission is to offer them the opportunity to develop a wide range of professional and social skills in order to integrate and remain on the labour market more easily. Among youth who complete their internship at the Ferme Aux Champêtreries, 75% find a job or go back to school.

 

As part of the proposed activities is found the production of local products branded L'Herborerie and Les Champêtreries. A new product line "Ça goûte le ciel" soon be added to our existing products. In addition to our products, which are available individually and are distributed throughout Québec, it is possible to buy gift baskets, pre-packaged or customized, for any occasion. We also prepare buffets and snacks for business meetings and others.

At fifteen, being a big fan of cycling, I was happy to discover the snowscoot - a winter sport that has quickly become a passion for me. In 2007 I was recruited by the Canada Snowscoot team, which led me to participate in my first world championship in Praloup, France. I finished fifth in the freestyle category with only three years of experience in this sport! And at the last world championship, held at Mount Sutton, I was part of the organizing committee while participating in competitions. I went up the second step of the podium with the silver medal in freestyle.

Last winter, I completed my diploma in mechanical engineering at the Cégep de Sherbrooke. I then led the most exciting and most challenging project for me as an athlete. I set up my business plan for my company Snowscoot Hundred and Twenty and, in parallel, I created, with the help of three classmates in mechanical engineering technology, a prototype for a snowscoot dedicated to slalom. Before starting Xocolatl chocolaterie, I participated in a number of fairs to sell my products. Since I had a regular job and I was preparing for shows in my free time, my mother gave me a helping hand to package products. One day, having miscalculated my time, my mother and me had to pack pieces during the night, after we both worked all day. We still had a lot of work even at 2:00 in the morning. Tired, my mother proceeded to pack the last package, a beautiful chocolate sleigh, and while she was wrapping the last ribbon, it fell from her hands and her fist ended up right in the sleigh, breaking it into pieces. I was in another room and I hear a loud noise, so I rushed to see what happened, I found a chocolate sleigh in small pieces and my mother crying of sadness and fatigue. Seeing the scene, I could not help laughing to tears trying to console my mother. We agreed that we would never again be that last minute and I would take care of all packaging from then on!

Émilie Lemay, 29, originally from Abitibi, and Raphael Bédard, 31, from Témiscamingue, officially opened artisanal cheese factory La Cabriole on August 12, 2011 in the Montcerf-Lytton region.

“Cabriole” is the French word for the prance of a kid goat… what a perfect homage to the playful and stubborn nature of the goat.

La Cabriole is the only cheese company in the region that offers fresh, exceptional quality cheese made from milk produced right on their farm. The couple’s first goat, Marguerite, is still part of their herd.

You can tour the farm between May and September from Thursday to Saturday. The factory holds tours year round, also from Thursday to Saturday.

We had originally intended to offer take-out and counter service exclusively, but since we couldn’t find enough room to put the line-up area, we decided to adapt our plans to the space. We hired servers, modified our kitchen and layout accordingly, and also decided to serve alcohol. Making these changes was probably the best decision we made for the project. In the end, what seemed like a setback ended up helping us to define Horizon Thai.

She came up with the idea for the business when she went back to school in industrial design at the Val d'Or Centre de formation professionnelle (vocational education training center). That same year, Pascale Comeau met Anne and René during a teaching internship. Pascale is an alumnus of the Centre de formation professionnelle and already had several years of professional experience in industrial design. While pursuing her studies in professional education, Pascale also wanted to get back to her trade, so she joined Anne and René in their new business partnership.  The team went on to create the VUPARCAD business together. Ill-equipped, he had to make his way without a flashlight, walking six kilometers to the nearest house in unlined boots to find help. Seeing the light was on, he knocked at the door and who should answer but Patrick Chenel, a fellow snowmobile enthusiast. Alain and Patrick had never met before but from that moment on, after they discovering shared dreams, ideas, and passions, the two  built a friendship that would result, only a year later, in them joining forces to create Extrême Chic-Chocs inc. Alain takes care of administration and marketing, and Patrick takes care of the more technical aspects of the off-road snowmobiling business. Two snowmobiling fans met, recognized their potential, saw an opportunity and went for it… a new business was born that is now expanding across the province… and beyond. Western Canada here we come…

Through these activities and objectives, Julio is able to actively provide better access to legal services in Québec.

This organization has also developed a number of projects related to its mission, including publishing the Guide de rédaction de contrats en milieu agricole, establishing a moot court competition for local high schools, organizing a series of fifty workshop/conferences given in Montérégie area high schools, creating the public affairs newspaper Le Juripapier; and launching an informational project for people working in child and youth services.

Juripop is also developing an iPhone application that will give users access to legal information, an important project on consumer rights, a tour to raise awareness about elder abuse, as well as a seminar on access to legal services. This legal clinic now boasts a Board of Directors made up of 13 people from the legal, business, and community sectors, 100 student volunteers from Montreal’s three law faculties, and eight Pro Bono lawyers. The team also includes four executives, two in-house legal advisors, one legal intern, three employees, and many support volunteers – not to mention the future staff of the offices opening soon in Sherbrooke and Québec City!

Le Loup Rouge is the only brew pub in Sorel-Tracy, as well as the only restaurant cooperative in Montérégie. Its mission is to offer a selection of unique and flavorful artisanal beer while promoting and developing cooperative values. Being a cooperative, it aims to have worker members give their input in the workplace. Finally, the cooperative encourages local and visiting artists by hosting a diverse variety of musical acts and providing space for art exhibitions.

Le Loup Rouge’s brewer actually entered the world of artisan breweries quite by chance. “There’s no official degree to become a brewer. I learned my trade by meeting and befriending the brewer at the Bilboquet microbrewery in Saint-Hyacinthe, where I used to go regularly with friends,” he says.

And so his passion was born. “I began as head brewer then started winning contests and getting involved in the beer world. As time passed, my passion for brewing only grew stronger,” he remembers. In 2005 he decided to go into business. “I had always thought of opening a brew pub in Sorel-Tracy, so when the opportunity arose I did so, with the help of friends. We knew right away we wanted it to be a cooperative,” he says.

Ébénisterie Public’s mission is to provide a self serve production workshop and a school of woodworking to the public, as well as specializing in the sale of custom made quality furniture, while promoting wood that has been harvested responsibly.

Since 2009 Ébénisterie Public has been a place where all levels of age and experience have worked together. The focus is not only on the quality of the product and skills of the craftsman, but on the development of the character of him/her as well. Technical skills and self esteem are an important part of life’s lessons. Guided by this, local craft and artistry are born.

The workshop has hosted groups from Place aux Jeunes and L’Hameau Oasis, individuals from many local group homes, Jeunes Volontaires and several students from Massey-Vanier High School, both in French and English.

At Ébénisterie Public we continuously build custom heirloom furniture, we restore century old furniture and we create Art. Some of our most recent and greatest accomplishments include designing, building, and renovating custom residential dwellings.

At Ebenisterie Public we have hope for our community, we have visions of how it could be and we are taking action to help it get there.

“Save the planet by making it greener!” RecyVermico Express is managed and operated by fifteen students with learning disabilities. Their mission is to greatly reduce waste and to reuse discarded items to make new ones in order to raise awareness about the 4 R's.

These youths use vermicomposting and reuse a variety of materials to create new products. For example, pop can tabs are recycled into jewellery, old ties are made into bags and hats, zippers become flower brooches and discarded picture frames are redecorated with color pencils and computer graphics. RecyVermico Express also upcycles yogurt containers, sandwich bags, cracker packaging, etc. and passes them on to a company that makes garbage cans, park benches, and other things with these non-recyclable products.

La fabrique des apprentis has been in business for over thirty years. Its original mission was to distribute products made by apprentice chefs and pastry chefs. At first the products were being sold unprocessed. Then, in 1992, Jean-Claude Boisclair and Lyne Lefebvre decided to roll up their sleeves and begin processing the products in order to sell them directly on the consumer market to better promote the school and the local food industry.
